The excitement of one of the toppers in the Uttar Pradesh board exams turned to disappointment when a cheque presented to him by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath bounced and he had to pay the penalty. Alok Misra, seventh rank holder in Class 10, was given a cheque for ₹1 lakh in Lucknow on May 29. His father deposited it in a bank in Lucknow on June 5, but it bounced. The cheque had the signature of Raj Kumar Yadav, District Inspector of Schools, Barabanki.

Mr. Yadav said the student was given another cheque and the matter resolved. District Magistrate Uday Bhanu Tripathi said action would be taken if any laxity was found.
