The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday told the Bombay High Court that it had reopened the case of RTI activist >Satish Shetty’s murder in Pune in 2010. It said the case would be probed by a new Investigation Officer from Delhi.
The court thereafter dismissed a petition filed by Sandeep Shetty, brother of the activist, alleging foul play.
The petition had sought action against the former CBI Director. It had alleged that the Investigation Officer S.P. Singh was pressured to file a closure report.
The court on Monday said it was inclined to dismiss this petition after CBI’s counsel Hiten Venegaonkar made a statement that the agency had decided to transfer the probe from Pune’s Crime Branch to Delhi Special Crime Branch.
The Division Bench of Justices V.K. Tahilramani and I.K. Jain dismissed the petition which had sought action against the former CBI director and the special director alleging foul play.
“We have reopened the Satish Shetty murder investigation. A new Investigating Officer from Delhi has been appointed,” Mr. Venegaonkar told the court.
The activist was murdered in Talegaon in Pune in January 2010.
