The North Police have registered a case against AIADMK MLA Om Sakthi Sekar and nine of his supporters for allegedly creating ruckus at a function attended by Union Minister of State for Planning, Parliamentary Affairs and Culture V. Narayanasamy at Nellithope.

Mr. Narayanasamy was to lay the stone for a road work in Nellithope on Friday, which falls in Mudliarpet constituency represented by Mr. Sekar.

According to police, the MLA and his supporters staged a demonstration to protest the government’s decision for not inviting him. Mr. Sekar was told that officials from the Public Works Department had sent him an invitation.

Mr. Sekar then protested the presence of former Chief Minister R.V. Janakiraman’s son at the function and used abusive language against him and government officials, the police said. Members belonging to the AIADMK and the DMK came to blows, they added.

Cases have been registered under Sections 147 (rioting), 153 (provoking to commit rioting) 353 (using criminal force against public servant and deterring his duty) and 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
