Adding to the spate criminal incidents in Nagpur, burglars targeted union minister Nitin Gadkari’s brother-in-law’s residence here on Friday, robbing jewelry of worth Rs.20 lakh.
Koshor Totale, the brother-in-law of Mr.Gadkari, was returning to Nagpur from Jharkhand on Friday and asked his wife and son to come to airport to receive him.
“When we reached home, we found that the main door’s lock was broken and our stuff was lying all over in the house,” Mr.Totale told reporters in Nagpur.
According to Inspector Shashikant Dhongale of Nagpur police, 81 kilogram gold, two kilogram silver and 1000 US dollars were taken away by the robbers.
Robbery at the residence of an union minister's kin has raised serious questions over the law and order in the city which is the home town of Mr.Gadkari ,Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and the headquarter of the Rashtirya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
The government was left red-faced earlier this month when five inmates managed to escape from the high security Nagpur central jail.
The city has also reported some sensational cases of murders, gang rapes and robberies since the Fadnavis government took charge.
Incidentally, the home department of the state is also with the chief minister.
Alarmed over the increasing crimes, the government replaced Nagpur police commissioner two days ago.
Mr.S.P. Yadav, known for his crackdown on criminals and mafias during his earlier stint in Nagpur, has been appointed as Nagpur police commissioner.
Reacting to the spate of criminal incidents in his home town, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis termed the incidents as “unfortunate” and put the blame on previous government.
Speaking to a Marathi news channel on Saturday, the CM said, “The previous dispensation has left dirt of 15 years for us. Don’t expect us to clean it in a few months. Some incidents including the jail break were unfortunate and shameful.”
