West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Wednesday met the family of Sanjoy Ghosh, the police constable who was killed by suspected Maoists recently near the Satnala police camp in Bankura.

Mr. Bhattacharjee said he would consider the family’s appeal to provide employment to Sanjoy’s sister as the slain constable was the family’s only breadwinner.

Earlier at an award function, Mr. Bhattacharjee had said that certain powers were creating chaos in the State and also supporting Maoists. “In Paschim Medinipur, Bankura, and Purulia, they are creating unrest, killing policemen and blocking development.”

“They are torching government offices, killing innocent people — what do they really want? We cannot compromise with such people,” he said.

It may be mentioned that in reply to a question on what he thought about the charges linking the Trinamool Congress with Maoists, Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram had said no party which believed in parliamentary democracy could support Maoists. “As far as I am concerned, nobody is colluding with the Maoists,” he said.
