As more MLAs switched sides, Congress on Friday alleged that BJP is offering huge amount of money to its legislators to switch over ahead of Rajya Sabha polls in which the ruling party has fielded former Congress legislator Balwantsinh Rajput to take on stalwart Ahmed Patel.
Congress spokesman Randeep Surjewala said three party MLAs were offered money by BJP. The MLAs who were reportedly offered money were also present in the press briefing.
Mr. Surjewala alleged that the BJP was using the government machinery, money, and muscle power to poach Congress MLAs ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls.
According to him, Vyara MLA Punabhai Gamit was called by Tapi district Superintendent of Police (SP) N.K. Amin, who offered him money on behalf of the BJP. Two other MLAs also claimed that they were offered money to switch over to the saffron party.
Moreover, nine Congress legislators in Rajkot also came before media and claimed that the BJP leaders offered money to them. “I can give testimony of all our members, who were offered money by the BJP,” Congress legislator Indranil Rajyaguru claimed.
Meanwhile, three Congress MLAs have resigned from the party, taking the number to six since Thursday.
