The Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said that the charges of corruption levelled against his ministry by the local and national leaders of the BJP are baseless and politically motivated. As such Mr. Ibobi does not feel like issuing formal contradictions.

Talking to reporters at the Manipur Assembly secretariat on Wednesday he said that the ruling Congress party shall not stoop low in levelling such charges against the BJP leaders in the State. He said that people know what kind of scams they were involved in while they were ministers in the past. He claimed that the Congress government has been delivering goods to the people and all sections of people who know it shall not believe the politically motivated charges made ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

Regarding the charge that the Congress MPs from Manipur never took up the issues of Manipur in the Parliament Mr. Ibobi said that there are certain norms for putting up the issues which should be first brought to the notice of the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam Gangmei said that the Modi wave cannot reach the Northeast. Mr. Gangmei, who is noted for his sense of humour, also said that there are many high mountains in the Northeast and Mr. Modi cannot cross them. He said that a secular party like the Congress has been working for and delivering goods to the people all these decades and as such the people are with it. What the BJP is saying on the eve of the Lok Sabha polls will be merely a storm in the tea cup and cannot change the political contours in the region.

Both Mr. Ibobi and Mr. Gaikhangam said that in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections the Congress will win both the seats in Manipur.
