November 09, 2014 02:29 am | Updated 02:29 am IST - RAIPUR:

Maoists damaged roads and railway tracks in Bastar of Chhattisgarh disrupting movement of people and goods during a bandh called by them in the region on Saturday in protest against the Modi government’s “Brahminic and fascist” policies.

“The Maoists tried to destroy public property in many places in Bastar today. They damaged railway tracks in four places in Dantewada and Jagdalpur. They also stole some telephone sets from the Kakalur railway station,” Inspector-General of Police, Bastar, S.R.P. Kalluri said.

The ultras damaged the Sukma-Dantewada road and blocked traffic with tree trunks on the roads. They put up banners on the Antagad-Narayanpur road protesting against a rehabilitation policy of the government for surrendered Maoists. The ultras torched some vehicles in Bijapur district of the region. Bus operators did not run daily services in many parts of Bastar.

Five Maoists arrested

Despite the bandh, the Bastar police managed to nab five Maoists from different parts of the region. A woman member of the Rawghat area committee of the CPI(Maoist) was arrested from the Sambalpur forest in a joint operation by the Border Security Force and the Kanker police, said Kanker SP R.N. Das.
