The Supreme Court-mandated oversight committee has granted permission to the Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital in Baripada to admit the first batch of 100 MBBS students for the 2017-18 academic session.

The process of admission can now be taken up as the committe has given its nod, State Health & Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena said.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik welcomed the committee’s decision stating that the long -tanding demand of the people of Mayurbhanj had been fulfilled. He expressed hope that the medical college will be successful in providing better health care to the people of the north Odisha district.

It may be recalled that despite the State government’s preparedness, the Medical Council of India team had not visited the medical college.

The CM had also written to the Union Health Minister in this regard, but in vain. The State government had then approached the committee seeking necessary approval.
