Noted music director Bappi Lahiri will contest the Lok Sabha election from West Bengal as a candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the party’s State unit president Rahul Sinha said here on Thursday.
“Mr. Lahiri’s becoming a BJP candidate from here will definitely add to the party’s chances of achieving electoral success in West Bengal as he is one of the celebrated musicians of the State as well as of the country,” he added.
Mr. Lahiri was among those present at the rally in the city that the party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi had addressed on February 5.
Mr. Sinha said his party would launch its “one-note-one-vote” campaign that would start from February 20.
Donation for partyIn this campaign initiative, party workers would go door-to-door to collect donations for the party that can be paid only with a single currency note ranging from Re.1 to Rs.1,000.
Mr. Sinha said the names of the other BJP candidates in the State would be announced by February end or early March.
The party’s election strategy in West Bengal would be decided at a meeting of its office-bearers scheduled to be held on Friday.
