Army Colonel in custody for raping mentally challenged woman

In yet another heinous crime against women in Maharashtra, an Indian Army Colonel allegedly raped a 22-year-old mentally challenged lady in the cantonment area in Nashik district.

The shameful incident, that sent shockwaves across the district, took place in the Deolali camp area in Nashik. According to sources, the accused, Col. Vinod Sahni, lived next to the victim’s residence. The accused reportedly took advantage of the absence of the girl’s mother to force himself into the victim’s house and sexually abuse her.

There was much furore in the Sansari lane area following the incident.The Colonel has been taken into police custody and a case has been lodged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code at the Deolali police station. Further investigations are on, said the Nashik police.
