Arms, ammunition dumps of Maoists unearthed

Three secret arms and ammunition dumps of Maoists were unearthed in Ganjam district of Odisha during a joint anti-Maoist operation by the State police and Central Reserve Police Force on Saturday night.

These arms and ammunition dumps were found inside Khadisaru jungle under Surada police station limits, said Deputy Inspector General of police, southern range, Amitabh Thakur. According to police sources, the dumps belonged to arrested Naxalite leader Sabysachi Panda’s Odisha Maobadi Party.

Information provided by Pramod Majhi alias Sagar, the right hand man of Sabyasachi, who had surrendered before the police on January 5, is said to be have led to the recovery. The seized items included three Self Loading Rifles (SLR) and 793 rounds of live ammunition. Magazines of SLR, INSAS, .303 rifles, batteries etc. were also recovered.
