An application filed in the Bombay High Court has challenged Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan’s refusal to allow the CBI to prosecute the former Chief Minister, Ashok Chavan, in the Adarsh scam.
“The application will be heard on January 13 ,” applicant Ketan Tirodkar told The Hindu on Monday.
The application has claimed that “the agency’s compilation of papers submitted to the Governor for sanction to prosecute Mr. Chavan is full-fledged and full-proof and it slates out not just faulty decision of granting additional FSI to the tainted society but also money-laundering by Mr. Chavan for funding the flats in the names o his mother-in-law and brother of father-in-law and his own brother-in-law.”
Mr. Tirodkar said: “I learnt recently that the proposal for sanction to prosecute Ashok Chavan, accused number 13 in the Adarsh scam, was placed before the Governor by the CBI and Ashok Chavan met the Governor on October 15, 2013 or around on the eve of birthday of the Governor. There was a closed-door meeting between the two and accused number 13 ‘convinced’ the Governor not to grant sanction.”
The application claimed that the Governor was closely associated with Mr. Chavan’s father, the late S.B. Chavan.
Mr. Tirodkar urged the court to direct the CBI to file a charge sheet. The application had also prayed that the court “direct the agency to probe the details of the visit of Ashok Chavan to the Governor; and the meeting of one hour that took place to ‘convince’ the Governor for rejecting sanction.”
