The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday registered an First Information Report (FIR) against former Goa Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Vimal Gupta and two police officials involved in a bribery charge in settling departmental inquiry proceedings.
Mr. Gupta was recently relieved from his post by Goa government after allegations of corruption were raised against him.
Superintendent of Police (SP), ACB, Priyanka Kashyap told The Hindu on Wednesday evening that the FIR has been registered against Mr. Gupta, who faced allegations of bribery charges.
She said that the FIR was filed after obtaining assent of the competent authority, State Chief Secretary Dharmendra Sharma who is State Chief of Vigilance.
Mr. Gupta is the second senior IPS officer that the Goa government has relieved from duty in recent times. In August 2016, Sunil Garg, former Goa Inspector General of Police, was asked to relinquish his post after Munnalal Halwai, a Goa-based businessman, accused him of demanding and accepting a bribe. The Goa ACB is yet to register an FIR against Mr. Garg.
