Noted anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare will go on an indefinite hunger strike from April 1 in protest of the criminal-politician-bureaucrat nexus in Maharashtra.
Talking to PTI at Ralegan Siddhi village, around 40 kms from here, Mr. Hazare criticised the unholy nexus and the infamous land, sand and oil mafia in the State, in the backdrop of Additional Collector Yashwant Sonawane’s brutal killing.
He also condemned attacks on several RTI activists across Maharashtra and held the State government responsible for deteriorating law and order in the State.
In a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithiviraj Chavan on Friday, the social activist said that much time has been given to the previous and present governments, in the State to improve the situation but to no avail.
“He (Chavan) must now show political courage to stand for common man against these organised evils instead of just talking big,” Mr. Hazare said.
“The situation in Maharashtra has become worse than Bihar. Ironically, Bihar has improved its quality of governance,” he said.
Ahead of his hunger stir, the veteran Gandhian will also organise a ‘dharna’ on these issues on March 15 in the village here, from where he will launch his fasting.
