Amar Singh asks Centre to provide security to Jaya Prada

Latter invokes Parliamentary privilege against beacon light incident

April 16, 2013 11:48 pm | Updated 11:48 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Rajya Sabha member Amar Singh, who was earlier with the Samajwadi Party, on Tuesday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to ensure proper security to Lok Sabha MP Jaya Prada alleging that she was manhandled by administrative personnel in her Parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh while she was holding a meeting at her house.

In separate meetings with Dr. Singh and Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Mr. Amar Singh gave a memorandum seeking an “impartial probe” into the incident to find out “who was behind it.”

Later Mr. Singh accompanied Ms. Jaya Prada, when she met Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and invoked her Parliamentary privilege. She handed the Speaker a memorandum seeking “security” and “stringent action” against the people involved.

Ms. Jaya Prada has been elected twice from Rampur on Samajwadi Party ticket. In 2010 she, along with Mr. Singh, was expelled from the party for “anti-party activities” and the two had floated their own outfit called Lok Manch.
