Madhavi Sarkar, former Communist Party of India (Marxist) MLA and wife of slain Purnea MLA Ajit Sarkar said on Saturday that the family would move the Supreme Court against the acquittal of Pappu Yadav in the murder case.
“We will file an appeal before the Supreme Court in a few days. Right now we are getting the paper work together,” Ms. Sarkar told The Hindu on the phone from her residence in Purnea district.
She said the High Court’s verdict came as a surprise and alleged to “a deal” between the Congress and the Bihar government.
Mr. Yadav’s is believed to be affiliated to the Congress. His wife Ranjeet Ranjan, a former MP, is a Congress leader.
Verdict surprising
Ms. Sarkar said, “earlier, Mr. Yadav got bail, but it was rejected by the Supreme Court. Now this verdict came all of a sudden. It is surprising. It has happened when the Congress is ruling at the Centre and when Nitish Kumar’s government in Bihar. There seems to be a deal.”
Overturning the CBI trial court’s verdict, the Patna High Court on Friday acquitted Mr. Yadav, Rajesh Ranjan and Anil Kumar Yadav in the 1998 murder case.
