Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ajit Jogi on Wednesday clarified that a statement attributed to him in an interview to a web portal about “possible exodus” of senior Congress leaders in case Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi replaces his mother as the party president was “wrong.”
A web portal had published an interview of the heavyweight politician from Chhattisgarh on Tuesday and had quoted him saying “there is a possibility that several known state leaders could even leave the Congress if Rahul Gandhi takes over as party president because they harbor doubts about his capabilities to lead and revive the party”.
Clarifying his position through a press statement on Wednesday, Mr.Jogi said, “The interview mentions me saying that if Rahul Gandhi takes over as Congress President, many important state leaders may leave the party. However, the fact is that I did not even mention this.”
“ On the contrary, the entire spirit and tenor of my interview (given to the web portal) is based on the premise that it will be in the interest of the party for Rahul Gandhi to take over as president as early as possible. I repeat that in my opinion no body of any consequence in the party would ever think of leaving the party after he takes over as Congress president,” he claimed.
