Action taken against two jail warders

The Odisha jail administration initiated action against two warders of the Berhampur circle jail following the seizure of a large quantity of banned items including narcotics, cash, mobile phones and sharp weapons from cells of the prison during a surprise raid on Monday.

According to jail superintendent Raghunath Majhi, on Tuesday a warder of Berhampur circle jail was suspended. Another warder Mangulu Sethi was transferred to Digapahandi sub-jail.

Banned items

Mobile phones, over Rs.66,000 in cash, marijuana and four fans had been seized from the cell of Ramesh Jena, the arrested former Congress MLA, alleged to be leading a crime syndicate. This surprise joint raid on cells had been led by Inspector General of Police Amitabh Thakur, Ganjam Collector Prem Chand Choudhary and Berhampur Superintendent of Police Ashis Singh.
