A novel protest in M.P. against fuel price hike

July 02, 2014 01:52 am | Updated May 23, 2016 04:01 pm IST - BHOPAL:

Congress members of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Tuesday went by tongas (horse-drawn carriages) to attend the Budget session as a mark of protest over the Centre’s decision to hike petrol and diesel prices.

Sporting black turbans, the MLAs led by the Leader of Opposition, Satyadev Katare, sought an explanation from Mr. Modi as to how he could raise the prices when he came to power promising to provide relief to the people

The MLAs also demanded resignation of the Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and sought a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation or a special investigation team supervised by Supreme Court into the scam involving the Madhya State Professional Examination Board.

In a statement, Mr. Katare said the special task force set up by the State Government cannot do justice in probing the scam. His party would continue to protest both outside and inside the Assembly till the “big fish” involved in the scam were brought to book.
