A breather for students on Plus Two goof-up

Move to help re-addition of answer sheets

June 06, 2014 10:14 am | Updated 10:14 am IST - BHUBANESWAR:

With hundreds of students seeking re-checking of their answer sheets thronging campus of Council of Higher Secondary Education every day, the Odisha Government on Thursday asked aspirants to submit their applications with their respective college authorities.

The Higher Education department has written to all college principals to facilitate forms for re-addition and photo copy of answer sheets by downloading forms from websites at their level.

After receiving duly filled up applications from students, college authorities have been asked to submit forms with CHSE on three dates -- June 13, 20 and 28.

“The decision will help students, who come from distant districts to apply for re-addition and photo copy of their answer sheets at CHSE. Students will not have to spend money and time for coming to CHSE,” said CHSE chairperson Basudev Thatoi.

It is to be noted that hundreds of students had besieged CHSE office here on Monday protesting against major discrepancies in their mark-sheets. In subsequent days too, unusual gathering of students was witnessed on the CHSE campus.

On Tuesday, the Council received 2,500 applications while next day the number of applications submitted for re-checking answer-sheets shot to 4,500. On Thursday, over 3,000 applications were submitted.

Students and parents had charged that CHSE had goofed up results with many ‘bright’ students awarded low scores in mathematics, physics, chemistry and Sanskrit. Thereafter Higher Education Minister Pradeep Panigrahi asked authorities to clear the confusion.

The CHSE chairperson, however, continued to maintain that there was no discrepancy over Plus Two results.

“We had scanned 2500 applications on the first days. We did not find any inconsistency in mark-sheet. None of the students who had scored over 70 per cent marks in other subjects had single digit number either in mathematics, physics or chemistry,” said Mr. Chhatoi.
