Four policemen were injured and one of them succumbed to his injuries after a militant ambush near Srinagar on Friday evening.

A police spokesman told The Hindu that a police vehicle was fired upon by militants on a highway near Zeewan in the outskirts of Srinagar in the evening during a routine patrol. “Four injured policemen were shifted to Srinagar hospital,” said the spokesman. Later, Head Constable Kishan Lal succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

Police sources said the area had been cordoned off. The militiant group Lashkar-e-Taiba said it had carried out the attack.
