Chhattisgarh Assembly witnessed pandemonium on the second consecutive day of monsoon session on Tuesday with the Opposition (Congress) and the treasury benches hurling allegations against each other in the House.
After the question hour on Tuesday, Assembly Speaker Gourishankar Agrawal informed the State Congress chief Bhupesh Baghel that the no-confidence motion moved by him against the Speaker cannot be accepted as it requires 14-day prior notice.
Leader of Opposition T.S. Singh Dev expressed unanimity with the Speaker’s decision but the treasury benches started shouting slogans demanding “apology” from Mr. Baghel “for disrespecting the Speaker of the House.”
Congress MLAs countered the move and trouped to the Well of the House shouting slogans against the government over the issue of fake ration cards issue.
Amidst din, the Speaker suspended 37 Congress MLAs including Mr. Dev and Mr. Baghel for 10 minutes.
When the House reassembled, the treasury benches continued shouting demanding apology from the State Congress chief.
Angry Congress members again trouped to the Well shouting slogans of Tanashahi Nahi Chalegi (highhandedness won’t be tolerated) attracting the Speaker’s ire who suspended and asked them to leave the House.
But the Congress MLAs led by Mr. Baghel refused to budge and continued to shout slogans which forced the Speaker to adjourn the House till Wednesday.
