At least three BSF jawans were killed and four others injured when suspected Naxals blew up the vehicle they were travelling in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district on Wednesday.
A head constable and two constables of the force died while the condition of one among the injured jawans was critical, BSF sources said.
The ultras triggered the landmine explosion near Erikbuta village under Pakhanjur police station limits when the mini truck carrying the jawans was passing, Kanker SP Rahul Bhagat told PTI.
The incident took place around 1820 hours.
The troops belong to the 87th battalion of the BSF which has a camp near the village.
They were moving on operational duties, the sources said.
Additional forces have been rushed to the spot, Mr. Bhagat said.
The BSF has deployed five battalions (5,000 personnel) in Kanker for anti-Naxal operations and security related duties.

PUTFORTH. Who will think state of affair about CPMF.
Very sad news.I criticise media for not writing names of dead soldiers.
Any way whoever they were I salute them for their brave duty & sacrifice towards nation.
I pay tribute to our jawans who lost thier lives during their duty of protecting our land from anti social activities and people.!
I think, India should change strategy in dealing with Naxals. Its no longer a nuisance but more of a national security threat.
We need to change the attitude to “shoot first, ask question later”. I know human rights activists will be incensed, but this is no less than a War. Second we need to employ airborne patrolling and engaging system, since Gov.t does not want to involve AirForce or Army, may be it is time to equip BSF with Attack helicopter that has FLIR and a high caliber gun. It will be useful in antiterrorist activities at the border.
