Two militants emerged from a hideout and began running towards the adjoining village of Kenipora.

The security personnel chased the militants, who fired at them killing head constable Niyaz Ahmad. In retaliatory fire, the police and armed forces gunned down both militants. The gunfight lasted about an hour.
