The Customs officers at Goa International Airport on Monday morning arrested two Oman-bound passengers, including a foreign national, for allegedly travelling with foreign currency worth ₹43.7 lakh.

Suspicious movement

“The passengers had been moving around suspiciously in the departure hall before check-in formalities. On searching their baggage, officers found foreign currency equivalent to ₹43.7 lakh. They could not give satisfactory answers when confronted by Customs investigators,” a spokesperson of the Customs told reporters on Monday. The cash was in multiple foreign currencies, including U.S. dollars.

Identities not revealed

The passengers were arrested under the Foreign Exchange Management Act. Their identities have not been revealed by the enforcement agency.

The passengers were booked on an Oman Air flight and were working together, the officer said, in response to a question.
