: Asserting that a safe and efficient public transport system was the backbone of any urban economy, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government proposed a plan outlay of Rs. 1,735 crore for public transport.
As much as 8.4 percent of the plan outlay will be dedicated to the procurement of more buses for the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), additional bus stops, promoting enhanced last-mile connectivity and the creation of a robust, sustainable, safe, accessible and integrated, multi-modal public transport system in the Capital.
Enhanced inter-state connectivity though buses, better facilities including common mobility cards and dedicated passenger information systems were also in the offing for Delhiites, Mr. Sisodia added.
The DTC, Mr. Sisodia said, will procure 1,000 new standard size non-AC buses during 2016-17. An additional 1,000 buses will also be added to the fleet of cluster buses.
Mr. Sisodia said the government would also introduce 1,000 new buses in the premium category through a “purely market driven model” to encourage the financially well-off to use public transport.
To accommodate these new buses, Mr. Sisodia said, bus depots would be developed at Rewla Khanpur, Dichaun Kalan, Karkari Nahar, Bawana Sector-1 and Dwarka Sector-22.
“It is (also) proposed to modernise the ISBTs at Sarai Kale Khan and Anand Vihar ,” Mr. Sisodia said, adding that a new ISBT at Dwarka was also proposed.
