Terming it an example of the ‘latest and most shocking politics of violence and terror’ practised by the Maoists against their political opponents, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has ‘strongly condemned’ the attack on the Congress convoy in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district on Saturday night.

In a statement, the CPI(M) Polit Bureau demanded a ‘high-level enquiry’ and firm action to stop ‘Maoist depredations.’ It called upon ‘all democratic forces to fight the politics of violence by the Maoists.’

The party held the State government ‘answerable for the lack of security arrangements for the yatra.’

Referring to an incident last week, the statement said: “On the one hand the Bharatiya Janata Party government allows the killing of tribals in the name of fighting Maoists and on the other it utterly fails to protect legitimate democratic activities in the State.”
