Suspected Maoists on Monday shot dead a CPI(M) leader at Salbani near Lalgarh in West Midnapore district.

Police said Maoists called 35-year-old Shambhu Mahato, Secretary of CPI(M)’s Salbani Branch office, from his home at remote Guripal village on Monday morning and shot him from close range.

He died on the spot, police said.

The insurgents also killed a shopkeeper and CPI(M) member at Aandaria bazaar in Binpur on Sunday evening.
