Faced with another slew of Indian allegations against Pakistan, Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar on Thursday said Pakistan-India relationship required “intensive management” and a mechanism to insulate it from domestic politics.
Of the view that it was unfortunate that the cross-Line of Control (LoC) clashes in January had slowed down the peace process, the Minister stressed the need to have uninterrupted and “uninterruptible” dialogue.
She was addressing her last press conference as Minister as the entire Cabinet is scheduled to step down soon to make way for a caretaker government ahead of the next elections.
On Wednesday, Pakistan rejected Indian Home Secretary R.K. Singh’s allegation that the terrorists who attacked the Central Reserve Police Force in Srinagar were from Pakistan. Referring to Defence Minister A.K. Antony’s statement in the Rajya Sabha accusing the Special Services Group of the Pakistan Army of beheading two Indian soldiers on the LoC on January 8, the Foreign Office said: “This trend of making irresponsible statements and kneejerk reactions by senior Indian government functionaries has the potential of undermining the efforts made by both sides to normalise relations.”
