Young scientists who presented papers at the 28t Kerala Science Congress held at Calicut University displayed great enthusiasm and competitive spirit. Many of them presented with such vigour and confidence that naturally enlivened the question-answer session.
K. Jesita, research fellow at the Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM), won the best paper award in environment and forestry section. Her innovations in the detection of heavy metals and pesticides in water and food by using two pills had become a topic of discussion at the three-day congress.
Sheeba Sugathan from Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University won the best paper award in agriculture and food science.
In biotechnology, Lakshmi R. Nath from Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, Thiruvananthapuram, won the best paper award.
When Amrita P. Thankachan from Mahatma Gandhi University won the award in chemical section, V. Jayachandran from Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre won the best paper award in earth science.
G. Praveen from MG University won the award for the best paper in engineering science.
In fisheries and veterinary section, Anju Varghese from Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Pookode, won the best paper award. K. Ramya from Sree Chithira Thirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, won the best paper in health sciences.
In life science, M. Dhanisha from Cochin University of Science and Technology won the best paper award. In mathematics, the best paper award went to K.V. Harsha from Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram.
B. Priyanka from Kannur University won the best paper award in physics.
