Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan has asked the government to reveal Pathanamthitta District Congress Committee president Mohanraj’s phone call and travel details so that it will become clear who has tried to influence Sreedharan Nair, complainant in one of the solar scam-related cases.
Mr. Achuthanandan told a news conference here on Thursday that the question was whether Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had the courage to do this.
Referring to the Chief Minister’s statement on Wednesday that it would be a travesty of truth if he resigned over the ‘solar scam’, Mr. Achuthanandan said “Mr. Oommen Chandy, the people of Kerala have found out the truth. If you have still not realised it, one can only say you are living in fools’ paradise”. The Chief Minister’s statement was nothing but a big joke, he said.
The Opposition Leader said the people wanted to know why the Chief Minister was evading a proper response to the Opposition’s demand for examining the CCTV recordings at his office.
Last year, when commenting on the action taken against one of his staff members for accepting bribe, Mr. Chandy had offered to allow anyone to examine the recordings but now he was refusing to do the same.
“Oommen Chandy is afraid that he will end up behind bars. That is why he refuses to accede to the Opposition’s demand,” Mr. Achuthanandan said.
He said the Opposition would not go to any court to fight its case against the Chief Minister. “We will take him to the people’s court. We hold him answerable to the people,” Mr. Achuthanandan said.
