The United Democratic Front (UDF) on Saturday raised objections to the statement on movable and immovable assets owned by CPI(M) veteran V.S. Achuthanandan, submitted along with his nomination papers in the Malampuzha Assembly constituency.
Advocate S Ramesh, who appeared on behalf of Congress candidate V.S. Joy before returning officer P.M. Shashibhooshan, alleged that the statement was incomplete as it lacked details of the immovable assets purchased by the CPI(M) in Mr. Achuthanandan’s name when he was chief editor and publisher of party organ Deshabhimani .
He argued that non-mentioning of the assets in the statement was against the provisions of the Representation of the People Act 1951.
The returning officer said he would go through the merits of the complaint and directed Mr. Achuthanandan’s representative A. Prabhakaran to submit arguments, if any. Meanwhile, the returning officer accepted nomination of Mr. Achuthanandan after scrutiny.
