Thalavur panchayat president resigns citing harassment

Alleged harassment by two ‘A’ group leaders

May 22, 2013 03:37 pm | Updated 03:43 pm IST - KOLLAM:

Group wrangles in the Congress have led to the resignation of Thalavur grama panchayat president Sasikala Mohan on Tuesday.

At a press conference here she said that she belonged to the ‘I’ group and it was the harassment from the ‘A’ group which had compelled her to resign.

She alleged that slander was being spread against her by the party’s local mandalam president T.M. Biju and panchayat vice president Vadakode Monachan who are ‘A’ group leaders and the DCC president Pratapavarma Thampan had taken sides with them.

She said that she would lodge a complaint before the State Women’s Commission in this connection.

She said she was being victimised for taking a firm stand against acts of corruption allegedly indulged in by Mr. Biju and Mr. Monachan. The two had now conspired to move a non-confidence motion against her. Mr. Monachan was a man against whom the police had registered cases of cheating, she said. The main grouse against her was that she refused to sign a bill in favour of a contractor for a work which had not been completed, she said.

Ms. Mohan said she had even detected misappropriation of MGNREGS funds by Mr. Biju and this aggravated the animosity against her.

She said that the “I” group registering an excellent performance in the Youth Congress organisational elections at the mandalam had also triggered an ‘A’ group wrath against her.
