Even as efforts are under way to sterilise street dogs under the initiative of the district panchayat, three persons, including a three-and-a-half-year-old boy, were injured after they were attacked by a dog at Perla.

The incident occurred at 10 a.m. on Thursday, when the trio was standing inside the shop run by Prakash Pai.

The dog attacked his son Srivishnu and two others, Mahesh, 30, a relative of Mr. Pai, and Anwar, 17.

The injured have been admitted to Badiyaddukka Community Health Centre.

The incidents comes at a time when the district panchayat has embarked on programme to address the street dog menace by taking assistance from an NGO by paying around Rs.1, 400 to sterilise each dog at the Animal Birth Control Centre attached to the veterinary hospital here.

The programme will be expanded to Manjeswaram and Kanhangad block panchayats.
