Special Cabinet meeting likely on Friday

December 29, 2011 07:23 pm | Updated 07:23 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM

A special meeting of the Cabinet will be held on Friday to discuss the situation if the Public Service Commission refused to accept the Cabinet’s recommendation to extend the rank lists expiring on December 31.

The government has communicated the recommendation of the Cabinet to the Commission and sought a response by Friday evening. Two earlier recommendations of the Cabinet seeking extension of rank lists had been rejected by the Commission. So, the Cabinet has made an amended recommendation this time to the effect that the rank lists should be extended only till an alternate live rank list becomes available or till April 30 whichever falls earlier. Lists that had been live for four and a half years need not be extended.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had criticised that the Commission was insensitive to the concerns of the job-seekers and that its members were taking decisions with political objectives.
