Senior Congress leaders have protested protest against projecting C.B. Geetha, daughter of Minister for Co-operation C.N. Balakrishnan, as Mayor Candidate in Thrissur Corporation for the coming elections.

Congress (A) leaders including P.A. Madhavan, MLA, T.N. Prathapan, MLA, former Minister K.P. Viswanathan, M.P. Jackson, N.K. Sudheer, and Thrissur Development Authority Chairman K. Radhakrishan have sent letters to the KPCC president, Chief Minister and the Home Minister to convey their dissatisfaction.

A meeting held here two days ago couldn’t take any decision on this issue.

The leaders said that Ms. Geetha as Mayor candidate will affect the victory chances of the UDF in the Thrissur corporation.

Favourable to UDF

As there is a favourable condition for the UDF in the Corporation, a non-controversial candidate should be highlighted as the Mayor candidate, they pointed out.

However, a meeting held here reached a consensus to give Olarikkara seat to Ms. Geetha to contest. A consensus was reached after the DCC president O. Abdu Rahiman Kutty held discussion with Minister C.N. Balakrishan on the issue.

The recent group clashes have allegedly created discontent towards Mr. Balakrishanan among some Congress activists.

The (I) group has been arguing that it should get the Mayor post for the next five years to end the tussle between the (A) and (I) groups.

All groups except (I) have made the move against Ms Geetha.

The party will take a decision on Mayor candidate later, Mr. Abdu Rahiman Kutty said after the meeting.

Ms. Geetha has been district secretary of the Mahila Congress for the last two years.
