The Koodaranhi grama panchayat has constituted a subcommittee to look into the recent controversies over the licence granted to the Kakkadampoyil water theme park owned by P.V. Anvar, MLA.

The seven-member subcommittee was formed at a meeting of the panchayat here on Saturday. Panchayat authorities said the subcommittee would submit its report to the board on August 31. All the complaints related to the sanctioning of operational licence to the project would be examined for better clarity, they said.

Panchayat president Solly Joseph, who was appointed the chairperson of the subcommittee, said there was no opposition on the part of any board member during Saturday’s meeting. “Also, we have got no public complaints against the venture as it was given sanction after verifying all the required legal documents,” she said.

“There was also no negligence found on the part of the panchayat secretary in handling the project files. All the supporting documents are available here for the verification of any government agency,” Ms. Joseph said. She pointed out that the subcommittee was constituted with the participation of all political party members and that its decision would be final.

Meanwhile, a group of labourers working at the theme park staged a protest in front of the panchayat office on Saturday alleging that the propaganda against the tourism spot was wrecking their livelihood. Mr. Anvar, who secured the operational licence for the park, also visited the protesters.
