The Union Surface Transport Ministry has asked Railways to submit a report on the related alignment works of the Pallikkare railway overbridge (ROB), near Neeleswaram, reviving hope for commencing work on the long-pending project.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired by Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on Wednesday, P. Karunakaran, MP, said here on Thursday.

The National Highways Authority of India and State Revenue Department had submitted to Railways a detailed report of the works alignment of the project undertaken under the ‘Sethubharatam’ scheme.

A detailed estimate would be prepared by the consultancy once Railways approve the alignment report, which would pave way for commencing works on the only ROB left to be completed on the Mumbai-Cheruvathur stretch of the National Highway 66, Mr. Karunakaran said. Railways’ approval would clear the technical hurdles that kept the ROB works pending for years.
