The meeting between the government and State Election Commission on the schedule for holding the local government elections in Kerala has ended in a stalemate.
Both the sides stuck to their stated positions making a breakthrough impossible. The government took the position that the Commission should hold elections to the new 128 newly formed municipalities, but the Commission refused to accept it. The government finally took the stand that it would raise the issue before the Kerala High Court when the Court takes up the issue on September 3.
The government was represented at the meeting by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Ministers K. M. Mani, P.K. Kunhalikkutty, Manjalamkuzhi Ali and M.K. Muneer. The State Election Commission was represented by the Commissioner K. Sasidharan Nair.
