Murder: 6 PFI men acquitted

Ravindran was hacked to death by a gang at Tirur in 2007

The Additional District and Sessions Court (2), Manjeri, on Thursday acquitted six Popular Front of India (PFI) workers who were accused in the murder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker Ravindran Thirunilathukandi at Tirur.

Judge A.V. Narayanan let go Adil Karukaparambil, 46; Sakeer Husain Ulladasseri, 45; Ahamed Naseem alias Alavi Koottappilakkal, 49; Rasheed Alihajinte Purakkal, 35; Ismail Azhuvalappil, 39; and Yahu alias Bava Puzhavakkath, 47, after he found that the prosecution failed to prove the charges against them.

Murder in 2007

Out of the nine accused, Mohammed Jasim Kalath had died during the trial. Two others, Mohammed Mustafa and Kunheethu Kuttippilakkal, are yet to face the trial. The case against them will continue. Ravindran was hacked to death by a gang in front of BP Angadi Girls High School, Tirur, on January 20, 2007. Babu Kadavathiyel, who was with Ravindran, had escaped with injuries.

Ravindran was the second accused in the murder of Yasir Amapparakkal, 39. Yasir was murdered on August 18, 1998, at Tirur for embracing Islam.
