K. Sivadasan Nair, MLA, was responsible for whatever happened during the inaugural function of the Vallasadya ritual on the Sree Parthasarathy tempe premises on Wednesday, Aranmula Heritage Village Action Council chief patron Kummanam Rajashekharan has said. (The MLA reportedly ill treated by a group of people agitating against the proposed airport project at Aranmula).
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Mr. Rajashekharan said the MLA was alienated in his home village in the backdrop of his support for the private airport project there. The MLA had reached the temple without the invitation of the Palliyoda Seva Sanghom with the intention to create problems, he said.
The MLA’s adamant stance that he would attend the function, disregarding the devotees’ protest, was what led to the untoward incidents.
The MLA failed to respect the villagers’ conviction that the proposed airport project, which required large-scale conversion of the Aranmula Puncha and wetland that housed sacred groves and other places of worship, would do more harm than good, Mr. Rajasekharan said.
The police and the Palliyoda Seva Sanghom had told the MLA that he should keep away from the function on security grounds, he said.
The residences of action council president P. Induchoodan and other office-bearers were attacked by miscreants, he said. Mr. Rajasekharan called upon the police to take stern action against the miscreants.
