Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidates performed well in the local body polls in Kozhikode district in spite of a lot of odds, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) State president A.C. Shanmukhadas said here on Monday.
In a statement here, he said the victory of LDF candidates would be the harbinger of a major change in State politics. The front could do well in spite of some influential groups and individuals deserting it and throwing their weight behind the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), he said.
People like M.P. Veerendrakumar, K. Muraleedharan and leaders of the Indian National League (INL) had provided their organisational strength and political clout to UDF in an attempt to weaken the LDF. The LDF's victory in the Kozhikode Corporation , Vadakara and Koyilandy municipalities is a creditable achievement, he said. The BJP could not win even a single seat in the Corporation. This clearly showed that it had supported the UDF to defeat LDF candidates, Mr. Shanmukhadas whose party won two seats in the Corporation said.
