The Asian Nature Conservation Foundation (ANCF), a Bengaluru-based charitable trust, will hand over the documents of 15 acres of land at Kuddrakode, near Thirunelly, in the district to the Forest and Wildlife Department for maintaining the land as an elephant corridor as a part of the proposed Thirunelly- Kuddrakode elephant corridor project .
Raman Sukumar, chairman, ANCF, and who is also the Chair of the Centre for Ecological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru will hand over the land documents to E. Pradeep Kumar, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest at Thirunelly at 10.30 a.m. on Saturday. ANCF had procured the land from five farmers at a cost of Rs.30 lakh. The project aims at reducing human-wildlife conflict by relocating villages or settlements located inside the elephant corridor by providing suitable packages, North Wayanad Divisional Forest Officer Narendranath Veluri said.
The project envisages connecting the Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary and Rajeev Gandhi National Park in Karnataka with the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary and North Wayanad Forest Division, Mr. Veluri said.
