The Kerala High Court on Monday dismissed a bail petition of actor Dileep, now in judicial custody in connection with the case relating to the sexual assault of a woman actor.

During the hearing on the petition, Director General of Prosecution Manjeri Sreedharan Nair submitted that Dileep, the 11th accused in the case, was the ‘kingpin’ of the conspiracy behind the crime. The criminal conspiracy with ‘Pulsar’ Suni, prime accused in the case, was hatched in March-April 2013 at a hotel in Kochi.

Mr. Nair argued that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case had collected sufficient material evidence to prove Dileep's involvement in the crime. Besides, his role in the crime was confirmed by phone call records and statements of witnesses. In fact, his arrest was made on the basis of solid evidence.

As the crucial witnesses in the case were from the Malayalam film industry, if Dileep was released on bail, he would influence them to sabotage the investigation and trial, he said.

Dileep, in his petition, contended that he was made an accused only on the basis of an allegation that he participated in a conspiracy allegedly hatched with ‘Pulsar’ Suni, “a notorious criminal involved in abduction and robbery.”It was the outcome of “a deep-rooted conspiracy at high levels.”, he alleged.
