The Angamaly Judicial First Class Magistrate Court on Saturday dismissed the bail application of actor Dileep, an accused in the abduction and harassment of a female actor in Kochi. The actor was sent to judicial custody till July 25.

Raising objections, the prosecution said there were chances of the actor, arraigned as 11th accused in the case, influencing other witnesses in the case, including Pratheesh Chacko, former counsel of prime accused ‘Pulsar’ Suni, and Appunni, an aide to the actor.

The prosecution, in a report submitted before the court, also cited reasons such as the need to question other persons close to the accused and the safety of the female actor for denying bail. Earlier, the investigation team told the court that it suspected Mr.Chacko of handing over the visuals to Dileep.

Defence counsel, on the other hand, maintained that the remand report against the accused did not hold water and that the actor would abide by all conditions the court would set for a bail.

In an unexpected move, defence counsel submitted two mobile phones claimed to be that of the actor saying that they should be send for forensic analysis before the police could tamper with them. Following this, the court ordered the defence to prepare an inventory before submitting the phones.

May move higher courts

The actor is likely to approach higher courts with the bail plea now.

Late in the evening, the police once again brought the actor to the court, reportedly for unlocking the cellphones submitted before the court. The proceedings were over in about five minutes and the actor was shifted to the Aluva sub-jail thereafter.
