Kerala Cabinet approves draft bill on prisons

The Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday decided to enact a unified legislation on jails.

Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan told the media after the Cabinet meeting that the Cabinet has approved the draft Bill on Prisons. It covered security of prisons and safety of prisoners, dignified treatment of the prisoners, juvenile justice and correctional facilities, higher education and training of prisoners and their welfare and rehabilitation.

The Cabinet had also decided to provide three per cent reservation to the disabled in suitable posts in the public sector undertakings, autonomous institutions, universities and cooperatives of the State.
