The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has chosen its veteran leader in the district K. Janachandran for the Vengara byelection.

The BJP had faced criticism when it did not field any of its strong or veteran leaders against Mr. Kunhalikutty in the Malappuram Parliament byelection held on April 12 this year.

K. Janachandran is one of the senior-most leaders of the BJP in tMalappuram district.

The BJP had fielded a Muslim candidate, P.T. Ali Haji, in Vengara in 2016.

The Haji had secured 7,055 votes against Mr. Kunhalikutty, who had beaten Left Democratic Front (LDF)’s P.P. Basheer by 38,057 votes.
