Idukki to be declared TB free soon

: Idukki has been listed among the five districts to be declared TB-free in the country.

The other district from the State is Wayanad and it has been included in the Vision 2020 scheme with the District TB. Control Department coordinating the works in this regard. As per the data, the disease is mostly confined to estate and migratory workers. According to the data, there are 71 TB patients in the district. The anti-tuberculosis work is done by four units at Adimali, Thodupuzha, Painavu and Vandanmedu. An official of the TB cell said that there are 37 government and private hospitals selected for treating the disease.

Arrangements have been made on TB Day on Tuesday with the district programme to be inaugurated by the district panchayat president M.T. Thomas at Munnar. There will be seminars and awareness campaigns throughout the year to make a TB free district.
