Melsanthi hosts the feast on Uthradom

Hundreds of devotees partook of the Uthrada-Sadya—feast on the Uthradom day—held at Sabarimala Sannidhanam on Sunday.

The feast began immediately after the Utchapuja at the Ayyappa shrine. Sticking to the tradition, Temple head priest (Melsanthi) G. Vishnu Namboodiri hosted the feast.

Temple chief priest (Tantri) Kandararu Rajeevaru inaugurated the feast by serving the dishes after the puja at the shrine.

The feast on Monday will be hosted by a devotee, M.C. Manikantadas from Chittar, who has been offering the Ona-Sadya at Sabarimala for the past several years.

Preparations for the Sadya began at the Sannidhanam on Sunday afternoon itself. The Tantri lit the main hearth at the Devaswom kitchen and the feast will be served immediately after the Utchapuja on Monday.

The feast on the Avittom Day, on Tuesday, will be hosted by a devotee from Kuwait and that on Wednesday will be hosted by the Devaswom staff on duty at the Sannidhanam.

A Sahasrakalasabhishekom will be performed at the Sannidhanam on Monday. The Tantri, assisted by the Melsanthi, performed the ‘Kalasa Puja' on Sunday afternoon.

The Ayyappa shrine will be closed after the Athazhapuja on Wednesday evening.
